Представитель проникнутого романтизмом крайне левого крыла и одновременно продажный наемный убийца секретных служб Ближнего и Среднего Востока Карлос создал свою собственную организацию, расположенную по другую сторону «железного занавеса» и действовавшую в последние годы «холодной войны». Фильм представляет собой историю революционера-интернационалиста, манипулятора и манипулируемого одновременно, оказавшегося в гуще поступательного хода истории, её активный участник и жертва собственных действий.
