José Carreras

Josep Carreras i Coll, also known as José Carreras (Spanish) (December 5, 1946 in Barcelona) is a Spanish tenor.
He belongs alongside Domingo and Pavarotti to the Three Tenors.
Carreras studied chemistry, but moved in 1963 to study singing with Jaime Francisco Puigi and the Conservatory of Barcelona.
He made his debut in 1970 at Liceo, the opera house in his hometown of Verdi's Nabucco.
In 1971 he won the Verdi Competition in Busseto, was hired at the Madrid Opera, and debuted with Montserrat Caballé in London in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda.
Numerous guest performances led him in 1972 to the New York City Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Opera of Chicago,
the Met, the Royal Opera House, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala (1972).
After his international breakthrough as a lyric tenor further invitations followed from Salzburg, Hamburg, Munich, Brussels, San Francisco, London, and others.
1987, at the height of his career, Carreras diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Despite a poor prognosis, he was able to overcome a year of intensive treatment including a then hardly widespread autologous bone marrow transplantation by the Nobel laureate Prof.Edward Donnall Thomas in Seattle, the disease and resume his singing career.
Out of gratitude for the help he has received from the medical side of,
1988 he founded the Fundación Internacional para la lucha Carreras contra la leucemia headquartered in Barcelona.
Since then, the Foundation supports leukemia research, the results have him at the time saved my life.
Since 1995, the German José Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, based in Munich.
Since then, he also presents an annual benefit gala in Leipzig to support the foundation.

Teresa Berganza

Teresa Berganza (born 16 March 1935 in Madrid) is a Spanish opera singer (mezzo-soprano).
She is especially known for roles in operas by Rossini, Mozart, Bizet and stands out for its technical virtuosity, musical intelligence and their impressive stage presence.
She studied piano and voice at the Madrid Conservatory, where she was awarded the 1954 Best in singing.
In 1955 she gave her concert debut in Madrid.
Her first appearance in an opera she had the 1957th as Dorabella in Così fan tutte at the Aix-en-Provence Festival
In the same year she made her debut at La Scala and the following year at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival.
In 1959 she appeared as Rosina in The Barber of Seville at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, this should be one of her most famous roles.
In 1967 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro.
Her first appearance at Carnegie Hall in 1964 she had a recital.
Her repertoire includes pieces in Spanish, French, German and Russian languages.
She was married from 1957 to 1977 with pianist Félix Lavilla, with whom she appeared regularly together and published recordings,
and with whom she has three children, including soprano Cecilia Lavilla Berganza.
In 1991 she received along with six other Spanish singers of the Prince of Asturias Award for Arts and Letters.
In 1992, Teresa Berganza participated in the opening ceremony of the Expo in Seville and the Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
