Описание: The plot is set in ancient Rome. The town is fighting against the Greek invasion under the leadership of the Etruscan Tarquinius Superbus; meanwhile it comes down in the world. In one army`s camp outside Rome, Tarquinius, Collatinus and Junius are drinking together and talking about their wives - if they can trust them or not. Junius encourages the young Tarquinius, son of the king, to prove the faithfulness of Lucretia, Collatius’s wife. The Prince rides after Lucretia, who is longing for her husband, and asks for shelter for the night. While Lucretia is sleeping, Tarquinius steals into the bedroom and rapes her. The next morning, Lucretia sends a message to Collatinus and asks him to come home. When Collatinus arrives, he consoles her but Lucretia feels that she can’t regain her virtue and so she commits suicide. Junius makes a plan, using the tragedy, to instigate a revolt against the King. The opera ends with the prayer of the choir and a Christian teaching.
